[NEWS] 300,000 Gallons of Ethanol Spill Into Mississippi River

Nearly 300 thousand gallons of denatured ethanol flowed into the Mississippi River near Helena-West Helena, Arkansas.

According to the Coast Guard, the spill happened over a four day period, starting when a barge allided with the Helena Highway Bridge on Monday night.

Investigators believe the denatured ethanol quickly mixed into the water, which made the product hard to recover.

Water intake facilities in the area are on high alert.

Crews were able to recover almost 2,000,000 gallons of ethanol from the barges.

The Coast Guard is still investigating the allision.
